The Fourth Challenge

A group of Tŷ Hafan Dads, Uncles and Brothers of children who are or have been supported by the South Wales-based hospice have announced their latest breath-taking fundraising challenge.  Between July 1st and 4th 2027 the team will reach the highest point of every county in Wales.  This extreme challenge means climbing mountains for the first three days, before off-road cycling to the peaks of counties in South Wales on day four.  Over the four days, the team will ascent over 7 times the actual height of Yr Wyddfa (Snowden).  The team will be hiking or cycling up to 14 hours each day.  This new adventure is called Catch22Peaks #C22P

Crazy Challenge Reputation

The Tŷ Hafan Dads and other family members have a reputation for partaking in crazy challenges to raise awareness of and funds for Tŷ Hafan.  In 2016, Dads were photographed naked on the Sully beach for the 2017 #DadsBareAll calendar.  In July 2018, twenty Dads, Uncles, Staff and Sponsors took on the #5in55 challenge, climbing five of the highest mountains in the UK in 52 hours.  The team raised over £40,000 and their achievement was recognised by Just Giving who awarded them the 2018 Team Fund Raiser of the Year.  In 2021, the group took on the #10nTaff, climbing the 5 highest mountains in North Wales, the 5 highest mountains in South Wales, and then cycling from Brecon to Cardiff in 55 hours.  In 2023, a team of nine cycled, hiked and kayaked the length of Wales, from Conwy to Tŷ Hafan in Sully in just four days.

Over the three challenges, the teams have raised an incredible £160,000 for the children’s hospice.  With the latest Catch22Peaks challenge, the Dads and Uncles want to push the money raised for Tŷ Hafan to over £200,000.

No Dad Gets Left Behind

These extreme challenges help the Dads and Uncles as they struggle to deal with having a child with a life-limiting illness or the loss of a child.  The group is comprised of Dads and Uncles with children presently being cared for by Tŷ Hafan, young people who have been discharged, and also those who have sadly passed away.  The group of men find that training and then taking on the challenge is doing something that actually makes a difference whilst helping the charity that supported their families.  The challenges also provide the opportunity for participants to talk with others and share their experiences and concerns.  It is therapy and extreme exercise in one.

And whether on the challenge or generally in life, our mantra is “No Dad Gets Left Behind”!
