#10nTaff Postponed Until 2022

#10nTaff Postponed Until 2022

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of the #10nTaff hiking and cycling challenge for Tŷ Hafan.  The postponement became inevitable as the severity of the coronavirus crisis became apparent.  Originally rescheduled for 2021, it became quickly apparent that restrictions and infection rates would still impinge on the event.  Instead, the Dads, Uncles and Brothers of children who have or are supported by the Welsh children’s hospice Tŷ Hafan will be climbing 10 mountains and cycling from Brecon to Cardiff between June 30th and July 2nd 2022.

Why #10nTaff Postponement Became Inevitable

At the beginning of March 2020, our #10nTaff participants were all training hard in preparation for the challenge.  In less than a month, those families with children or young people at risk suddenly found themselves in life-saving isolation.  For at least twelve weeks, although probably longer, our families will be living on their nerves, desperately protecting their vulnerable loved ones from this terrible virus.

Despite the isolation, the #10nTaff men have continued to train locally to where they live.  To avoid social contact, this has meant hiking in the early hours of the morning, training in the house or cycling alone in remote areas.  However, with the closure of national parks and the necessity of social isolation, it became impossible to undertake the level of training needed to take on this extreme challenge.  Also, uncertainty about work has hit hard.  Many Dads were faced with the terrible decision of whether to go to work and possibly be exposed to the virus, or stay at home and possibly lose their job and income.  We all need to be with our families at this time.

Training will continue in some form and watch out for our posts over the next few weeks.  Delaying the challenge by a year simply gives us more time to train, find more corporate sponsors and seek more support from the amazing public.  We have had incredible support so far and, with our corporate sponsorship, we have raised in excess of £10,000 already.  We have a long way to go until we reach our target, but we also recognise that after this life-changing period in our lives, Tŷ Hafan will be in desperate need of our support.  And after all the support our families have received over the years, it is only right that, in their hour of need, we support them.

If you would like to sponsor us, please go to our Just Giving team page and pledge your support to any of the team members – https://www.justgiving.com/teams/10nTaff

Once again, we wish to thank everyone for your support so far.  Please watch out for our posts on Facebook and Twitter and share where possible.  The challenge of climbing 10 mountains and cycling 52 miles in 55 hours is still on.  The only difference is we have more time to prepare.
